Yay, I am so happy that it is going well. I still have two weeks until my classes start. |

Bumpity.
Just finished my first week of college. Feeling awesome and I'm actually a bit bummed out that we don't have school on Monday, as it's a holiday and all. Absolutely loving my Kenpo class and learning how to play piano is challenging and fun! |

What's awesome about other countries is that once you take your general education classes in their equivalence of high school level… you never have to take them again. I wish I would have found this out earlier; I'd have been long gone by now! |

Originally posted by Belial I REALLY want to call bullshit on that, especially since that was how community college screwed me over when I transferred. The counselors just kept telling me to take major classes. As it turns out, classes taken for your major DON'T COUNT when you get to university and you end up taking those classes again; however, those oddball classes got fit here and there in my GEs at university. On top of that, since I went into journalism/communications, they made up some BS rule that we needed 15 EXTRA units (in ANY area except communications) along with my 85 GE credits, so we'd be well-rounded students. I can't stress enough how you really need to study the obstacle course before you hear you jumped through the wrong flaming hoop. Find out what you need to get out! But seriously, have tons of fun, college is GREAT. |

First of all, that's awesome, Nelrith! I'm happy for you! Just don't get burnt out…
Originally posted by RogueOriginally posted by Katana So, the community college I currently attend is trying to make it so that you don't get funding if you take the "oddball" classes that don't line up with your major. They say it's to get people to transfer to universities quicker, but… well, first of all, not all people are transferring to university, and secondly, how are we supposed to become well rounded people, if we can't afford to take some extra "fun" classes? It's also becoming mandatory to choose a major in your first year of attendance… and if you decide to drop a class after the first day (like the class isn't what you wanted), they're going to start charging. =/ I'm glad I was accepted into university in New Zealand! I don't have to worry about too much of this stuff in a couple weeks… until I have children. |

If all goes according to plan, I'll be starting at the beginning of January. I have orientation in about a week and I'm officially picking my classes then. Aside from Kenpo, I'm considering taking a few art classes as well! |

Originally posted by Katana Yeah, that really is typical. And I've come to notice that I got REALLY bored with my major classes even more after a while, downright hated them in some cases. I think that's why I ended up picking up another major and acing all of the classes for it. |

"Oddball" classes, yeah I tend to include all the tech/specialty courses I've taken since high school on my resume. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that's a good idea, lol. Not to mention it seems like a lot of jobs thesedays ask for some kind of computer proficiency, or how good you are with 10-key, etc, so I'm sure that helps make you look better too in listing that kind of stuff. |

Yeah. "Oddball" classes are great for the resume, actually. Typically people go for a class that is either too easy and for the sake of it being so, or they stick to things too close to their major. When you take a course and display genuine interest in it and maybe even use your knowledge outside of your class....employers eat that shit up.
As I've been told. I'm a Plain Jane at times, so... But again, congrats! When do you start? |

Haha, nice. I've definitely been wondering if I should try out something like that myself, probably an awesome way to relieve stress. |

Originally posted by Katana This is me, definitely. I also learned that they have Kenpo classes there as well, I'm definitely going for that as an elective. |

So much good news on the board this week.
Congrats, Nelrith! |

SQUEEEEE!!!!
**tackles** Good luck!!! College is a lot of stress, but if you like learning, especially for the sake of learning new things, it's like "Holy shit. Jackpot!" Congrats on kicking that test's ass too. And getting a witch to profess herself a saint. (So many sisters. Makes me feel like I'm being insulting every time I use the word "witch" Even typing it, I couldn't shake the feeling! Dammit!" |

Excellent, best of luck dude. Become the rhino and tackle the world.
lol |

Aww... but I liked the irony of a witch being a saint. |

Thankies!
I dunno about the bullshitting part (the reading/writing were insanely easy for me) and I'd rather not bullshit my way through math especially, but I'm sure that magical Dark Elf birthday powers had something to do with it! |
Elara Posts: 7491/9736 |
My birthday granted you awesome powers just like I said it would. For I am Elara, patron saint of bullshitting tests.
Seriously though, Congrats! I am so happy for you! |

Like the title says. I took my placement test at Rogue Community College today. I completely dominated the reading/writing portion and did better than I expected to do on math, which was above average.
