I only check Facebook to get updates on latest game releases -- I don't post status updates on myself and haven't accepted any friend requests. I doubt I'd be all that upset if Facebook were to suddenly go poof though.

Honestly, I'd just find something better to do with my time. no point in shedding tears over a dropped site, really. Especially one that's like FaceBook, Nya~.
Plus, it'll probably be more of a benefit to a lot of people, since there are tons of mindless fights and just overall drama going on there, Nya~.

I only set up my FB account to deal with a woman (one of my uncle's exes) that had been harassing my at-the-time 13 or 14 year old cousin there. Never ended up getting used, she stopped before I got there.

This may have also influenced my opinion of the site.

That was pretty much why I never got on MySpace (though it was also my opposition to the idea of starting one of those shittily-coded pages, dedicated to people starting their own fan pages for how awesome they figured they were, and that had music automatically starting on every page and so on).

I think I made the leap to Facebook when I realized how many things you could hide from people, and how many people you could block from finding you, searching for you, and so on. There's just so much more I liked about it in terms of security.

Like Katana said, it's also a way bosses can search for you and find your shit. I'm extra cautious about posting really embarrassing or inappropriate things on there, though it's kind of pissing me off how many people will tag me at the most random places. People don't need to know I was at McDonald's with 3 other people with just the phrase "Nuggets!" or whatever, especially when I should have been doing something more productive.

My main motivation in getting an FB was while I was working on my university's paper and it sort of made me feel like I was bonding with the people with whom I worked. The damn thing grew on me.

I actually have FB to thank for getting to contact people I never thought I would -- not just old friends I hadn't seen in forever, but people whose work I admired and so on. It's how I've gotten to be an extra for people's productions, gotten to take free knife-throwing lessons from this guy who teaches it to various celebrities when they need to learn primitive weaponry for movies and other things, how I've been able to ask semi-famous people questions and get quick answers.

The only reason I even MADE a Facebook to begin with was it was for a marketing class I had. I kept it because my marketing experiment worked. So, I'd be pretty ticked if Facebook went down. I sell A LOT of artwork that way. I don't post my art on Facebook because, quite frankly, they were "taking your shit" before they even made that announcement(That and while interning with Marvel, I wasn't allowed to anyway.). But it's good to keep in touch with clients when I need to know what they need, and it adds that personal level when we can all be friendly. It's what I believe, has made most of them recommend me to others, and thus me making more money/getting more work.

I hate that since I didn't take it seriously at first, I used only the first half of my name, because...well, I thought it looked dumb, everyone adding their "middle" names, and I was sick of people going on about my "middle name" and having to explain that no, it's actually all one name (EleanorCatherine) and that when people used that full name in person, they usually got beat up and that I go by Katie or Ellie, or Ellie-Kate(Which was the nickname that started it all when I was a baby, so now I get variants of that nickname), but now if I were to change it, I think it would effect my marketing. As far as a name is concerned, the three syllables and then a one syllable last name makes it a little more memorable, and when marketing, memorability is key.

Why else would I be upset if Facebook went down? Well, I like being an asshole. And FB is a REALLY good tool for that. I've been an asshole my whole life, but this takes it to a whole new level. It's not that I'm AFRAID of people in person, it's just that for when the social congregation is over, I can keep being an asshole.

So, I'd probably go to Google or use twitter more, if FB went down. Activity here would boom too. :p

Edit: And yah, the "taking your shit" remark, I know FB isn't the first and/or only. They were just more off-putting, to me, about the notion of using my shit without my permission. But it has more to do with my internship with Marvel/Disney (My section from Marvel was directly taken over by Disney). And they have their ways of checking that shit. Few people already got in trouble. Yet they're not opposed to Deviant Art, or if we have our own website. In THOSE cases, they'll just tell us we're not allowed to post work we're doing for them. But FB....shit, I got a little bit of grief over my stormtrooper thing and that flower I threw up there a little while ago...so...yeah.

I deleted my Facebook account ages ago, so it wouldn't affect me at all.

Twitter going down would be a minor annoyance, but it's mostly just a snark and venting outlet - which I can do just as easily through Skype.

I honestly never got into the "social media" thing much. Too cautious about who sees what - too paranoid, perhaps.

I guess I'm one of the few people who doesn't use Google+ or Twitter and never had a MySpace.

I was on LiveJournal for a few years there. It's still up, but far from active these days.

Amusingly I keep getting "Server not found" pages right now when trying to load Facebook.

In all honesty, I think I'd get pretty upset if Facebook went down without notice. I've got A LOT of photos up along with all of the updates I've put on the timeline to keep track of events in my life.

It's also been my way of keeping track of blogs, news sites, things and people I'm a fan of, and so on. Not to mention events, friends, and everything else. It's become something of an organizer.

Damn it.

Anyway, if FB did just disappear and another, better site hadn't already been developed yet, I might end up getting a Google+ account or something.

I would probably split my time between Google+ and Twitter.

I go there a bit more often than I like, usually to find an interesting link or something to read that a friend posts. If it went down, I'd be a bit upset, mostly because I'd have to get all of my contacts all over again.

I'd probably fall back to Google+ because it's pretty similar but with better coding and a lot of people I know use it already, so half of my friend list is covered.

To be honest I don't think it'd do much to me and there'd be nothing to fill the void, or no real need to for me. In general it's like 50% "FamilyBook" for me and while it's great to keep in touch with other family or just see what they're doing, yeah...

I dunno, a handful of you guys have me on your list and it's quite obvious I pretty much never do anything with mine. lol, I just use it to talk to close friends I tend to see in person a lot anyways.

I know not all of us are on Facebook or are as addicted to it as others, but I realized I check it an awful lot when it suddenly wasn't working for me a couple days ago. I think I was trying to post something and found myself agitated that it wouldn't post NOW.

Anyway, say Facebook goes down. It's been doing rather poorly trading publicly since they debuted on the stock market last month, and there are all these stories about teens and college students abandoning it already.

If the site just disappeared from the Internet, what would be your reaction? What site would you go to to fill the void? What are your thoughts?
