That was definitely some amazing clarification, and a point of view that I would not otherwise have considered.

I missed you, Vulkar. <3

It's fun having a republican Eagle scout back, isn't it? xD.

It's interesting reading the article...what it says here is key...

"This scout proactively notified his unit leadership and Eagle Scout counselor that he does not agree to scouting's principle of 'Duty to God' and does not meet scouting's membership standard on sexual orientation," Deron Smith, a spokesman for the organization said in a statement. "Agreeing to do one's 'Duty to God' is a part of the scout Oath and Law and a requirement of achieving the Eagle Scout rank."

So, what this is saying isn't that he was disqualified because he was gay, but rather, he was disqualified because a part of the scout law he refuses to quote, and by his interpretation he will not follow. The Boy Scouts of America is primarily a religious organization, if someone refuses to say that they will do their duty to God, then they will not be passed.

This isn't really discrimination, the BSA doesn't hold any prejudice towards members of their troop's sexuality, only towards their staff, where they will not let men who are attracted to men take boys out alone into the wilderness any more than they will let women who are attracted to men take boys out alone into the wilderness.

So, is there a bit of profiling when it comes to one's prefered sexuality? Yes. But that's not what this is about. This is about a man wanting to be termed as an Eagle Scout without listening to the Scout Oath. I was once denied a rank advancement because I didn't have it memorized. That's an important indicator as to how sacred they hold the scout oath.

Now, we can discuss whether the oath should be changed, but that's a whole different discussion.

Well it's just something that doesn't sit well with people(Mainly those that grew up during the 50s). I sit there and report everything that is anti what ever when ever my grand parents post things up on their wall. They turn around and call it being put through trials and tribulation. I call it being insensitive (and I KNOW I'm insensitive, but posting up South Africa's conference on anti gay marriage as a victory?).

Then they turn around and call my brother's boy friend his "best friend or ROOMMATE". I love Thanksgiving dinners with my family. Always something to look forward to.

I realize they want to maintain this bullshit tradition, but this sort of thing teaches boys that excluding homosexuals is OK and validates treating them like they're lesser people than heteros.

Which is most likely what the people who made the "No homos" rule figured they were doing.

On an unrelated note, a Girl Scout troop in New Jersey put together a video about hair care tips, not feeling pressured to feel beautiful, and to love who you are.

Sadly Boy Scouts is like another country. Kind of like the military.

Except, according to his mother, Karen, when he submitted the paperwork, the scoutmaster for Troop 212 in the San Francisco Bay Area told him he could not give him the Eagle Scout honor because Andresen is gay.

Can't believe this shit is still an issue.
