That's mean.... well, yeah, you'll probably have to have extra weeks at the end of the school year because there are certain standards where the school has to be in session a certain amount of hours, weeks, or months.

The teachers at our college have been protesting for several months now. They even take their free time to wear their university robes and picket the main street with signs demanding that they receive their deserved raises.

They haven't officially gone on strike, but in protest they refused to take petitioners in their classes.

For those of you who aren't in college or know what petitioning is, it's when you haven't registered for a class (be it that the class was full or you were lazy, etc), you show up on the first day of class, tell the teacher you'd like to be in the class, they see if there are any empty seats, but usually unless there are many petitioners, they'll let you in because it's RARE for everyone to show up on the first day. Also if you are enrolled in a class and don't show up on the first day, you are usually immediately dropped from it, thus it opens for someone who's petitioning to get your seat.

Petitioners are usually students who NEED the class their petitioning for to either graduate or need that class at that day and time to keep up their number units. Just for the most part the teachers were punishing the students.

Well, I dunno. My English teacher, and some others have backed it, have said that if the strike goes on past two weeks, then we gotta start making that shizit up.

But I'm not sure if we make up the whole duration the strike went on, or whatever time it lasted for after the two weeks. There's rumours of it being back in Monday, but they were also saying it could last til' November.

not certain. It depends on how his school is, they might use their school days and certain wasteful holidays to count towards their limit, making about a week or less. never know.

I guess it could kind of be bad news though, right? I mean, are you guys going to have to stay an extra 2 weeks towards the end of the year now?

sThat's a shame, missing out on not going to school for many days. OI loved it when my teachers went on strike. We had a day or two when we went in to get books from the people who were not striking, and I got to talk to my old teachers. While they were picketing. It was just a different experience,.

I don't think I'd ever live to see something like that around here. Olathe is supposedly the 2nd "Best" (or whatever) school district in the US (highest grades, acheivements, etc). So, I just really doupt any of this would ever happen here.

So yeah, I've never seen something like this.

A few years ago the teachers at my school went on strike and literally told all their students not to come to school. But it was short lived..

My schools have never had strikes, the teachers are well paid and its a public school too. The only disasters the schools I've been to have faced would be floods from broken pipes. Now that really sucks if you have a class in one of those rooms where all the mold is, especailly if you have asmatha or breathing problems, like me.

omg strike!!!1

Our teachers are having a strike, and we haven't had school for two weeks. It's nice and all of course not being in "prison" as some people who don't exist in our school say, but then again, it would suck whiskers once we have to make it all up. If the strike goes any farther into next week, then we have to start getting time taken off our summer. Or something like that. I dunno.

Any of you guys ever had your teachers strike? Or maybe got time off school for any other non-holiday reason? This teacher strike thing is going throughout all British Columbia. It's quite big.
