I don't remember how I did it here (and checking the code would probably give me an headache), but it's not that hard.
You can go at it in two ways:
- Add two fields to the database, one being a boolean that is TRUE when the forum is a subforum. The other field stores the id of the parent forum.
- Add only one field to the database that will contain the id of the parent forum. If that id is 0, that means it is not a subforum.
Then it is just a matter of adding the appropriate checks in the loop on the index.php page and do something like
while($subforum = mysql_fetch_array(mysql_query("SELECT FROM forums WHERE parent='".intval($forum['id'])."' ")))
Note that this particular piece of code probably wouldn't work by itself, because I haven't even looked at the board's code

However, it was NOT a one-time thing. If they neglected to update all of their services after the first time, then they are fucking idiots.
I can tell you that it isn't easy to update systems of this size. Seriously, it isn't as simple as getting a good programmer (or a good team of). It sure as hell isn't going to take a week, or even a month to fix that.
Sure, a big player like Sony getting hacked by a SQL injection is unforgivable.
However, according to LulzSec (dude(s) who hacked Sony about 4 times), Nintendo is also vulnerable (apparently got into their system). But he likes them, so he won't do anything more.
Let's face it, even if Sony had the same amount of security than Nintendo or Microsoft (hell, maybe they do!), they still would've gotten hacked. Maybe not as easily, but still would've. At this point, it's more of a "pretty much everyone hates Sony" so hackers target them (and they can even pretend to be the good guys!)
(because releasing the personal information of milions of people to the general public sure is a good act, right?)

I just received the Balls of Steel edition.
