Ah, the joys of growing up. First off, I want to say good job on stepping out of the shadows and becoming your own person! It can be a bit scary but in the end it feels so good to be an individual. Secondly, while I am also not a fan of confrontation, there is a point where you just have to argue to defend what you believe... like your arguments with your family mentioned in the big bang thread. Honestly what helped me was posting on boards like these and doing lots of reading. Once you develope opinions you tend to defend them, and the debates on boards ease that development because you can't hear the yelling of the other person. Soon you find the debates happening in real life and you are doing fine.

As for the boring thing... well, could you explain a bit more as to why it is happening? Just the summer blahs, did you just have a big change (I know Phoenix just graduated, what about you?). Stuff like that leads to boredom easily. It could also be that what was fine for vince the shadow is not for vince the person. If that is the case I recomend finding a new hobby or something that fits the new you. My thing was writing and gaming, in addition to academics, but maybe yours is art or sports or something else. Try new things and see if anything calls to you.

Seriously though, I nerd out and get giddy when I catch historical references. I correct inaccuracies in movies and tv shows dealing with subjects I have studied. I lecture at the drop of a hat, and I got a smartphone to post on the board while at work.

More of my stuff: I was more giddy on my first legal trip to Vegas because we were staying at the Hilton with the Star Trek Experience than for any other reason. I miss the Warp Core Breech! I had to pick and choose which Honor Societies to accept invitations from. I was a member of the Science Club in high school... where we mainly played D&D and M:TG. I was the first female president of the LBCC Gaming Club Volunteered to work in the game room on Friday mornings for a semester (actually really fun, I miss that game room). I own more fantasy fiction books than anything else. The top shelf of my bookshelf is filled with miniatures. I can say things in Elvish I buy a new set of dice for every campaign I am in because I'm one of those folk that believe that each set is character specific.

Interesting story. There were a few places where the sentence structure seemed a bit off, but that is fixable. The big thing that sticks out is how is he narrating if he is dead? |

Ok, so last night I got to see Cinderella and the Scorpions. Show was completely sold out and we had decent seats... I just wish I had a working camera.

Cinderella: great show, I am not too familiar with their stuff so I wasn't as into it, but they had a killer set and I really enjoyed it. Probably going to go get their stuff now. Scorpions: Epic is really the only way that I can describe it. Aside from the few stoners that started up as soon as they came on, I loved every second. It was a great show and the Kottak Attack firmly knocked Portnoy out of his long-held place as my personal drummer god. Overall, I am really sad that I won't get to see another concert with them. Oh yeah, and they dedicated "Send Me an Angel" to Dio. It was awesome. (Last edited by Elara on 08-01-10 03:07 PM)

Paycuts will happen before layoffs. I am sorry, but 70k a year is a lot of money and they can live with less. My dad supported a family of four on 40k, and cutting 30k/person/year would easily prevent most of the layoffs if not all of them. Besides, BC is the company gouging me for health insurance that barely covers anything and charging me extra on top of that for a pre-existing condition. BS refused to cover me outright for that condition. You know what it is? Being overweight. So yeah, seeing as they are part of the problem, I have very little sympathy.

As for Obama, yes I am a bit disappointed in how things are going. However, unlike 50% of the population, I understand that it is largely not his fault. One man cannot make the country do a 180 in two years. The economy is recovering, what more do they want? Iraq is winding down, and the healthcare bill passed. Obama is filling his campaign promises, he just can't do it all at once and people a pissed because reality doesn't work the way they want it to. Honestly, I am more pissed at Congress for all the bickering, childishness, and dishonorable behavior that they have been displaying since Obama took office.
