| Yeah, I was very surprised at the differences when I read it. But it just would not be the same without Gene Wilder in the movie.
So, that book club... they keep going with YA stuff and it has proven very hit and miss... but here is what we have so far: The Bear and the Nightengale - Already mentioned, but actually a pretty good story and interesting enough that I want to read the rest of the series to see how they finish it. Also, I enjoy Russian folklore and the author actually did research. I like authors that do research. Six of Crows - Fantasy heist story set in a world where there is magic, but the people that channel it have a stigma of sorts attached to them. It was interesting overall and had some nice steampunk elements, but could definitely have been better. I do want to get the second book but mostly because of it ending on a cliffhanger. Stalking Jack the Ripper - Oh dear gods. Okay... so this is one of the books that James Patterson slapped his name on for a YA line (Jimmy Patterson) to get it to sell. The characters are poorly written, red herrings are EVERYWHERE, the author did a half-assed job of researching the period... it was just bad. Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha) - This was a book that I suggested that got passed over for the Ripper book. It is set in a fantasy world based strongly in West African mythology and deals with the concepts of racism and prejudice in a magical setting. Magi are basically extinct, and their children who never came into their powers are second class citizens. The protaganist is on a quest to bring the Magi powers back. It was very well written, and I enjoyed it deeply. Honestly, I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick read. |

| So, it is June in Los Angeles, and that means that it is E3 time. What do you all make of the news out of E3 so far? What are you excited about? There are a lot of games that look really good, though I admit I probably won't get many of them myself. I was actually tempted by Fallout 76 until they said it was going to be online. Anthem looks really good, but I am still bitter about what EA and Bioware did to Andromeda for the sake of Anthem... and, also, online with rumors of single player. I would say the biggest thing to get my attention is the announcement that they are finally making the next Elder Scrolls game. I figured that news of it had to be coming soon with that joke about Skyrim on Alexa at the start of the segment. Smash Bros on the Switch looks a bit insane with all those characters, but I definitely think it will lead to a fun experience. I am also tempted by Pokemon Lets Go Eevee. Like, I might reinstall Pokemon Go long enough to port over my stuff if I get it. I was disappointed that there was no news on either the FF7 remake, Dragon Age 4, or Horizon Zero Dawn 2... guess I will have to wait until 2019. |

| Ghost of Tsushima looks absolutely gorgeous! I am super intrigued by Cyberpunk 2077 as well... I will definitely have to keep an eye on that one.
I don't want this to be the end of Bioware... I will seriously cry. But I seriously doubt that Anthem flopping will kill them, studios have had bad games before and come back. I am more hopeful that EA lets another company buy them out if they don't want to keep them. |

People don't like having to do the work of 3 people because you won't give out hours or hire more people. We like having out schedule 3 weeks in advance, as per company policy... not finding out the day before it starts. And when I report a member for printing pictures of their preteen son fully nude at what appears to be a hotel party, you don't handle it by calling Home Office, you call the fucking cops! |

So, they officially gave me a new job code at work... and a pay cut. Wireless was a higher tier, I get it... but then I find out that two of the other floor associates make what I was making, and I have 3+ years of seniority on them. It isn't as bad as the other associates that just got the bump to the new minimum wage, despite previously making just under it... so a new hire at the door now makes as much as a floor worker (which is a higher job tier) that has been there for 5 years. There is much agitation at my work... even people from corporate said that we should go as a group to the store manager... and when Walmart corporate is basically advising you act like you are about to unionize... shit is bad. |

Pathfinder: Kingmaker from Owlcat Games and Paizo. It is a nice throwback to games like Baulder's Gate and the original Neverwinter Nights. Like I said in my review on the Facebook page, it does have some glitches that can be annoying, but Owlcat is putting out hotfixes every few days and working on the first big patch due later this month. I definitely think they should have fixed a bit more before launch since it has a beta test feel to it, but I still am enjoying the game.

And the music... seriously, it makes me happy. My favorite part mechanically, though, is the map exploration because it replicates using minis on a tabletop and it is just cute.

So, it has devolved into high school drama at the Photo lab. Either the manager or main photo specialist started it, we aren't sure which at this point... but basically everyone is attacking the one other associate that actually does things in the lab besides me. I don't think she did anything and given that both potential shit stirrers have a history, I don't know why anyone believes them. But yeah, violation of open door policy, retaliatory behavior, so much shit. Fuck all of it.

California is more divided than you think, and certain scarier elements are getting bolder, so your vote does actually matter. I mean, just look at that push to divide the state into 3 that took the California Supreme Court to strike it down. The idiots in power now bank on voter apathy to keep them in office. Yes, it is stressful right now, but that just means you fight harder to fix it. Focusing on local and state is very important as well, since you usually get candidates for the national level from people who served in local or state goverment.
