So I have one of the iMacs that can dual boot, so I also have XP installed for gaming. Boot Camp (the program that Apple released for dual booting) does a great job with the drivers, but since Macs use EFI, which is superior to BIOS (which is what PCs use), Windows occasionally freaks out because of the lack of BIOS, and blue screens.
I called Apple, and got the only stupid tech support person they employ, and he said "Boot Camp is in beta, so we don't have any support for it, and we are not trained on Windows." Anyways, after some time of Google scouring, I cannot find a fix for this. Anyone got advice? |

you are most certenly welcom (sarcastic smile)
On a Sirius note BIOS is just the hard ware saying, “I exist and this is what I am” the drivers are what run the hard wear. If I where to say anything it would be that the Mac drivers are incompatible with the pc os. There fore I don’t think this will ever work right. And on top of that the heard wears EFI (god damn Mac for being different) is incomprehensible to the DOS based BIOS. In a short example it works like this: Person one Speaks Italian, which has Latin, roots. Person two speaks Japanese, which has Chinese roots. Person one and person to meet and cant understand each other so they revert to there root and still fail to understand each other Both person one and two and go home angry. No, DOS has a BIOS in it but it is not based of DOS, BIOS is firmware code that tells the machine HEY LOOK FAGGOT A DISK DRIVE LETS USE IT! EFI Which is Intel Sponsored and More of this Centuries Tech does the same thing in a more efficient and powerful manner...hit the wiki and read up...
Bootcamp emulates a BIOS for the slower to catch up windows which refuses to use EFI technology. I've done what I can Noah, until an update for bootcamp comes I think that You will have to tolerate your crashes... |

Yeah, I figured. I mean, if there was a fix, Apple would have used it. They'll probably have this fixed by the time Leopard comes out, since it's supposed to come with Boot Camp. | |||

Originally posted by Amudaus Well, actually, as far as what I've learnt in my computer science class, the BIOS is a type of ROM that starts up a PC. It starts up initial required processes, checks system stability, makes sure all required hardware is working (At the initial start up anyway), it allocates RAM to the operating system and starts it up and performs a variety of system recovery or modification commands. But yeah, it isn't DOS based, but it does look similar to some forms of it, so I can see why you would say that Amadaus. As for your problem, Noah, I'm afraid I have no information on it. Never had a Mac, never experienced Windows emulation, never gonna. My PC is fine for me. (Last edited by Danny Phantom on 10-16-07 03:07 PM) |
