The Rebirth of a Legendary Band

“I guess I should give some information to those who either, fought on different fronts or were under a rock for the past three hundred years.” The white haired elf smiled as he lifted the goblet from the table for one more draw. The Wayward lobster had become a sort of meeting place for him and his friend for sometime now. This particular table had soon become known as the Table of the Hand. A few folks had gathered, even a bard who seemed to nod in remembrance of hearing the tale. The Smokey haze seemed to blanket the room in amber light. The din noise had actually died down, as most patrons had gathered in hearing distance, wanting to either be entertained, or just feel like they belonged in the immense sprawl of the City known as Stormreach.

“The original Band of the Hand were actually nothing more than you and I. They were adventurers and thrill seekers, but mostly compassionate folk who wished to help those who could not help themselves. They had grown in power so vast, that they could span the Planes of Reality. They were led by one known as Hallic Haverstar and his half brother Andros Belvarous. These brothers had brought together some of the most powerful and skilled adventurers at their trade. They brought the ancient and powerful Arthur Pendragon of Vaasa who left his bride the High Priestess Lady Kristine to join forces with the two in what he saw as a holy Quest. They commissioned the Pious Knight and Priest Redmond Strongheart to join them in their crusade, and rescued the persecuted dark elf known as Kurse Malekith Darkstone from the Oerthian Vaults of the plane of Iuz and Kaz to help scout the darkest regions that they may encounter.

“Once the group had gathered, they set off to right the wrongs of their respective worlds. Once they had all but driven strife and war from their homelands, the two Magi, Andros and Kurse, turned to the planes. There they found many worlds whose lands were distraught by conflict and destruction. They formed together, counting their members as five. Together the five had worked as a tight nit group for years overcoming great obstacles. They took the name ‘the Band of the Hand’ to represent each individual member that strengthened the whole. Now dually named, the Band flung themselves into the Celestial nether. There they bounced around, from time to time, world to world, helping where they could, and enjoying one another’s company. Then came the war torn realm known to them as Ebberon.”

“They became aware of this realm during the last war. Walking onto a battlefield in midst of a decisive battle. Airships and mechanical behemoths waged war against Undead and the likes of creatures they had never seen. They watched at first, until the Paladin reached out, sensed within the combatants the true heart and soul, and called the attack. The band let loose a fury of magic, sword and bow that shook the Undead defenders, and soon the Evil Citadel was taken. The citizens were in awe, but knew not what to make of these strangers that had appeared during the battle. Soon many other deeds followed as the Band made a name for themselves amongst the Xen’drik citizenry. But soon the humans, Andros, Arthur, RedMond and Hallic grew old. The years and many leaps into the celestial nether took their toll, and they had to retire from the battlefront. Still their legend went on. Andros, with his intimate knowledge of the magic energies, struggled to find a way to keep himself from aging. Knowing that one day the Band would be needed once again. Soon the War came to an end, and even the immortal elf and the ancient Mage began to succumb to the pulls of time.
When it came time for the Band to return home, none had the energy nor the notion to return to their homes. They all settled in across Khorvaire. Soon they all had passed away with the sands of time, but had left their lineage live on in their sires.”

The Elf picked up the glass now, drained it and began pointing at those gathered around.

“Gathered here now, are the remaining heirs to the legendary heroes of the Band of the Hand. In a twist of fate, they were even named after their grandparents. Arthur the III, Hallic and Redmond and even I, Kurse Darkstone have gathered in this bustling city of Stormreach. The one known as Andros there, some of us still feel that it’s the Old man himself… but he won’t tell.” He laughs throwing a gaze at a wizened old human in robes resting in a chair close to the table. “We were gathered together once again by my Grandfather’s servant and most loyal companion, Kuergan the Quickblade. Here we will perfect our skills, gather others who are like minded, and who knows.. maybe the Stars will once again sing of the praises, of the Band of the hand.”

With that the gathered mass raises their glasses, mugs, pints, and cups in a roar of applause and in honor of heroes of old, and heroes to come.
